Vienna Airport set new records in 2024: a significant increase in passenger numbers to 31.72 million – a growth of 7.4% compared to 2023 and about 50,000 passengers (+0.2%) more than in 2019 before the coronavirus crisis. The top flight destinations in 2024: Antalya, Barcelona, and Mallorca were the most popular summer holiday spots, while Bangkok, New York, and Taipei were the leading long-haul destinations. Germany, Spain, and Italy were the leading destination countries in 2024.
It is also worth noting a strong increase of 21.6% in cargo volume to 297,945 tons at Vienna Airport last year. Meanwhile, the southern terminal expansion project is progressing very well, including the recruitment of business owners, and the airport is developing on its way to a 5-star airport rating.
"2024 was an absolute record year for Vienna Airport and the best in our 70-year history. With 31.72 million passengers, we have reached a new all-time high, and the cargo volume of 297,945 tons also marked a new historical record. This shows that the crisis related to the coronavirus pandemic no longer adversely impacts business results, and our growth continues. We expect slight growth in passenger volumes in 2025 and a positive momentum that will provide additional flight connections... The expansion of the new southern terminal, our key project aimed at enhancing service quality as well as stay time at the airport, is continuing on time as detailed in the project plan. Construction work is in full swing, and business recruitment is ongoing. Starting from 2027, the new terminal area will offer 70,000 square meters of additional waiting areas, modern security checks, a wide range of shopping and restaurants as well as spacious lounges," says Julian Jäger, Chief Operating Officer of Vienna Airport.
The share of Flughafen Wien AG – the company managing Vienna Airport as well as the airports of Malta and Košice in Slovakia - reached an all-time high of 55.20 euros, and the company expects a revenue increase of 1.08 billion euros in 2025.
