Activities at Vilnius Airport, the capital of Lithuania, were temporarily suspended early this morning (Wednesday, May 13) due to concerns about the intrusion of aerial objects, including balloons, into sensitive flight areas.

According to the airport, the restrictions were imposed at 2:16 a.m., amid what Lithuania described as part of a hybrid attack by Belarus against the state, civil aviation, and the public. About an hour later, at 3:16 a.m., the restrictions were lifted, and the airport resumed operations.

In the past year, several similar incidents have been reported in Lithuania, in which balloons linked to smuggling from Belarus disrupted operations at Vilnius Airport.

Passengers whose flights were disrupted or canceled due to the restrictions are asked to contact the airlines directly.
