The First among the Americans: United Airlines is Returning to Israel.
After Delta Air Lines announced that it would resume flights to Israel in April, United Airlines said it would resume its flights to Ben Gurion as early as March.
United Airlines will for the first time on March 15 renew its daily direct flights to Tel Aviv from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, using the company's flagship aircraft, BOEING 787-10. Additionally, the airline will operate a second daily flight to Tel Aviv starting March 29.
United stated: "The resumption of flights comes after a thorough evaluation of operational considerations for the area and close coordination with the unions representing our cabin crew and pilots. The flights will be operated by 787-10 aircraft. United has long been committed to serving Tel Aviv, and this renewal will make United the first American airline to resume the route this year. In addition, United offers connections to Tel Aviv through its partners including airlines from the Lufthansa Group. United will continue to monitor and assess opportunities to resume additional flights based on demand."
As a reminder, United Airlines halted its flights to Tel Aviv until further notice last August, after being the first American airline to resume flights to Israel following a long hiatus since the outbreak of the war.
Now, after Delta Air Lines announced that it will resume flights to Israel in April, Passport News has learned that United Airlines executives are holding talks with senior figures in Israel and those responsible for aviation matters about resuming the flights and that the company will soon announce the renewal of flights to Israel, even before April, as happened today (Tuesday).
We also note, United Airlines launched this winter its largest flight schedule ever with 4,600 daily flights and not a single one to Israel.
The return of United this month constitutes significant news for travelers to the United States, after a long period in which EL-AL was the only airline operating direct flights from Israel to America.
