Dubai-based carrier flydubai has announced the launch of direct flights to Benghazi, marking a significant expansion of its regional network and restoring direct air connectivity between the UAE and eastern Libya.

The airline confirmed that flights between Dubai and Benina International Airport will begin on June 17, 2026, with services operating three times per week from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

With the launch, flydubai becomes the first national airline from the UAE to operate direct flights on the route, providing new travel opportunities for both business and leisure passengers while strengthening links between the two cities.

The move is expected to improve accessibility to eastern Libya and support growing demand for travel between the Gulf region and North Africa. Aviation analysts say the route could also play an important role in supporting trade, investment, and family travel between the two markets.

Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city, has seen increasing efforts to rebuild international air connectivity in recent years as airlines gradually return services to the country. The addition of a direct connection from Dubai is viewed as another step in Libya’s wider aviation recovery.

For flydubai, the new route further strengthens its network across the Middle East and Africa, where the airline has continued expanding into underserved and strategically important destinations.

Passengers traveling on the new service will depart from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, the airline’s main hub for regional and international operations.

Sudhir Sreedharan, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at flydubai said: “Libya is an important market with strong business and trade potential, and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board and offering them more convenient travel options. As we ramp up operations across our network, we are well-positioned to meet increased demand ahead of the Eid travel period, traditionally one of the busiest times of the year, with positive momentum expected to carry through the summer and into the second half of the year.”

Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “The launch of our new operations to Libya marks another milestone in our network expansion strategy and reinforces our commitment to opening underserved markets and establishing new air links between countries. We have recently been scaling up our operations with a continued focus on adding new routes and frequencies as travel demand increases, and by the summer, our network is expected to grow to more than 100 destinations."
