Tragedy in the Maldives: Search and Rescue Mission for 5 Dead Italian Divers

Following the dramatic incident that has led to the death of five Italian divers in the Maldives, Italian and Maldivian teams are preparing recovery operations. Rough weather may delay the dives

Rescue vessels belonging to the Maldivian Coast Guard have reached the site of a tragic incident in which five Italian divers lost their lives.

"On board are divers from the Coast Guard and the police, as well as an Italian expert diver who has already cooperated with the authorities," said the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Ambassador of Italy to Colombo (accredited to the Maldives) has also arrived in Malé to meet with the Coast Guard officials, as instructed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani.

For the time being, weather conditions could delay the start of recovery operations.

"However, an initial dive to explore the cave's access points is expected to be carried out, pending improved weather," explained the authorities.
