Commuters across Long Island Rail Road are facing major disruptions after rail service remained suspended due to an ongoing strike, prompting officials to urge residents to work from home if possible.
Authorities warned that travel delays are expected throughout the day as thousands of passengers search for alternative ways to reach New York City during the busy commuting period.
To help ease congestion, officials introduced limited shuttle bus services connecting six locations across Long Island with subway stations in Queens during both morning and evening rush hours.
Additional transportation support is also being provided through NICE Bus, which has added extra service on several routes linking Hicksville, Mineola, Great Neck, and Freeport with Queens.
Transportation agencies are also encouraging commuters to use designated “kiss and ride” drop-off areas near subway stations in Brooklyn and Queens that are accessible from major Long Island roadways.
Officials stressed that travelers should expect significant delays and allow extra time for their journeys while the strike continues to affect one of the busiest commuter rail systems in the United States.
