Thailand. Photo: Shutterstock Thailand is set to scrap its 60-day visa-free entry policy for travelers from more than 90 countries, as authorities move to tighten border controls and strengthen security screening procedures.
According to an announcement from Thailand's Government Public Relations Department, Office of the Prime Minister, "entry rules will revert to original bilateral terms, varying by passport".
In other words, under the new rules, visa-free stay durations will once again vary depending on the traveler’s passport nationality.
Officials say the decision is aimed at improving immigration oversight and addressing concerns over travelers overstaying their permitted visits.
Thailand’s Visa Policy Committee is expected to review each country individually as part of the process, with updated entry requirements likely to differ from one nationality to another.
The move marks a significant shift from the broader visa-free policy introduced to support tourism and international travel.
