The Mexican Airline Pilots Association (ASPA Mexico) expressed support for the National Union of Air Traffic Controllers' "legitimate right" to ask for better working conditions through their official strike notice (emplazamiento a huelga) filed with the Federal Court.
Controllers are not yet on active strike, which means traffic to and from Mexican airports is not yet affected.
"Aviation safety is not built solely from a cockpit, but also from every tower and control center in the country, where thousands of decisions are made with professionalism and precision,' said ASPA.
The association further added that they recognize the "enormous responsibility" of Mexican controllers who struggle to keep the national airspace "safe, orderly, and efficient" on a daily basis.
"We consider it essential that those who hold such a sensitive part of air operations in their hands have dignified conditions, adequate training, and the necessary institutional support to perform their work safely and with certainty".
The National Union of Air Traffic Controllers (SINACTA) represents the controllers of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation who work at SENEAM. The union's responsibility is to "ensure respect for and improvement of the working conditions of each controller."
