Airline Introduces the World's First ATR Plane With All Business Seats Limited to 26 Passengers
A Malaysian airline will be the first ever to operate a unique ATR 72-600 aircraft with only 26 business-class seats. The aircraft is designed to operate on regional routes in Southeast Asia
Malaysian airline Berjaya Air has taken delivery of the world's first ATR 72-600 in the ATR HighLine All-Business Class configuration, a move that marks a new milestone in regional aviation. View the aircraft (Video: ATR)
The new aircraft landed in Kuala Lumpur after ATR's unique cabin concept received certification approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Malaysian authorities earlier this month, ahead of its entry into commercial service.

This is a double milestone for the airline. It is the first ATR 72-600 aircraft in its fleet, and also the world's first launch platform for ATR's new premium concept. The company notes that they see the launch of a new era in regional flights, combining a luxurious, almost private-style flying experience with the operational efficiency of a turboprop aircraft.

The aircraft features a unique cabin configuration of 26 business class seats only, arranged 1-1, so that each passenger enjoys direct aisle access and multiple windows. The advanced seats provide ample personal space, a side console and built-in storage.

One of the aircraft’s most striking features is the “executive” ceiling design, which replaces the overhead storage compartments with patterned panels. According to ATR, the move creates a more open feeling of space, brings in plenty of natural light into the cabin and gives a sense of volume reminiscent of large private jets.
The company is expected to operate the aircraft on routes between Malaysia and Koh Samui in Thailand and later on regional flights throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. The aircraft will also be offered for charter flights throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
