Chennai International Airport in India has announced stricter health screening and monitoring measures amid concerns over the spread of the Ebola virus. Under the new steps, automatic thermal cameras have been installed at the international T2 terminal to identify passengers with high fever.
In addition, a special health desk has been set up in the arrivals area near immigration control to assist travelers and provide a rapid response in cases of suspected symptoms.
Local airport authorities stressed that passengers who arrived from, or transited through, countries defined as affected by Ebola and are experiencing any symptoms are asked to report immediately to the airport health officer before passing through border control.
The official statement said the airport continues to work in full coordination with health authorities and other relevant bodies in order to protect passenger safety while maintaining regular and orderly flight operations.
It was also noted that last night (Friday), Uganda Airlines announced the cancellation of some of its international flights following tighter health procedures and concerns over the spread of the Ebola virus in the region. The airline said the decision was made as part of precautionary measures and coordination with health authorities, and advised passengers to check with service centers regarding schedule changes and additional guidance.
