Miami International Airport (MIA) has issued a travel advisory today, May 25, 2025, at 08:02 local time (12:00 PM GMT) regarding a "potential security threat" that has forced a temporary evacuation of parts of the North and Central Terminals prior to the security checkpoints.

The airport, which is currently collaborating with partners at the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office on the matter, has decided to evacuate the terminal portions "out of an abundance of caution".

"This situation is also impacting vehicle traffic entering the airport and causing delays on both the arrivals and departures levels. The safety of our employees and passengers remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding," added MIA.

UPDATE

At 11:07 AM Miami time (04:07 PM GMT), the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office informed the public on the immediate response of deputies to a "reported suspicious bag," which has since been cleared.

"The terminals will be reopening shortly. Travelers should continue to expect delays entering the airport. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to safely resume normal operations," added the sherrif's office.
