Authorities in the Czech Republic are warning drivers on the D5 motorway towards Germany to expect slow-moving truck convoys following increased cross-border freight movement linked to a public holiday in Germany.

According to police, the convoy traffic is forming around the 141st kilometre near Přimda and is expected to continue affecting traffic flow along the route.

Drivers are being urged to approach the area with increased caution.

"We ask drivers to exercise increased caution when approaching and moving within the convoy and to maintain a rescue lane."

The congestion is being caused by a higher-than-usual concentration of heavy goods vehicles moving towards Germany after Whit Monday (an official nationwide public holiday) resulting in sections of slow or tightly packed traffic along the motorway.

While no road closures have been announced, authorities are advising patience and careful lane discipline as the situation develops.
