Berlin police have launched a large-scale response at Tempelhofer Feld after receiving reports of a potential “dangerous situation” near the popular recreational area in the German capital.

In a statement issued this afternoon, May 28, 2026, authorities mentioned a "suspicion of a dangerous situation on Tempelhofer Feld."

"Our emergency services are already visibly on site and are checking the situation near the volleyball court. Individual access routes there are currently closed due to the operation. Leaving the field is, of course, possible at any time.”

Authorities confirmed that multiple emergency units were deployed due to the size of the area, with a police helicopter also assisting the operation from the air.

Police added: “Since there have already been some inquiries as to why so many emergency personnel are on site and sometimes still audible even on the approach: the large number of emergency personnel is mainly due to the size of Tempelhof Field. Even our police helicopter has now arrived and will support the operation from the air. So far, our emergency forces have not detected any specific danger.”

Parts of the field, including access routes near the volleyball courts, were temporarily closed as officers carried out checks. However, officials stressed that people are still able to leave the area freely.

UPDATE: The Criminal Police department in Berlin has taken over the initial investigations after a witness claimed to have seen "an argument between several people, one of whom is said to have shown a weapon-like object," said Berlin Police's latest social media update.

Upon searching the area, no suspect was found. "There are currently no further indications of a weapon. As we no longer assume any danger, the cordoned-off area will be reopened."
