Romania on High Alert: Two Injured After Drone Hits Apartment Building

Authorities in Romania confirmed a drone crash in Galați caused an explosion and injuries, with specialists investigating the incident near the Ukraine border

Romania's Ministry of National Defense has this morning, May 29, 2026, released an official statement regarding a drone incident that occured last night in Galati, next to the border with Ukraine.

"Teams of specialists from the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Romanian Intelligence Service continue their investigations in the area of ​​the apartment building in Galați where a drone crashed on the morning of May 29.

Initial information indicates that the entire load of the Geran 2 drone exploded upon impact," said the statement. 

Authorities also announced that two people suffered injuries and were transported to the county emergency hospital.

Citizens are asked to follow the authorities' recommendations and official information transmitted through institutional channels.

Similar drone incidents have been reported across Romania and other parts of Europe lately. According to Romanian authorities, multiple drones or fragments have crossed into Romanian territory since 2023, with similar cases also recorded in Moldova and the Baltic states.

In several Baltic incidents, drones have even crashed or been intercepted after entering national airspace.
