As previously announced, Portugal will be hit by widespread strikes led by CGTP-IN on June 3, 2026, with protests announced across dozens of cities and severe service disruptions in aviation, transport, and public services.

Today, June 1, Lisbon Metro issued a warning informing passengers traveling in Portugal's capital to plan ahead after an announced 24-hour metro strike will bring the network to a complete halt.

According to the operator, metro services will be suspended beginning at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, with normal operations not resuming until 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4.

The strike will result in the closure of metro stations across the city throughout Wednesday, June 3, affecting both daily commuters and tourists relying on the system to move around Lisbon.

The disruption is expected to severely impact thousands of passengers, particularly during peak travel periods, especially since major airline operator TAP Air Portugal is also announcing that it will operate "a total of 79 flights under the Minimum Services during the General Strike scheduled for June 3 in Portugal."

The remaining operation for June 3 will be "interrupted."

TAP has also announced it was getting in touch with all customers whose flights have been canceled and who are yet to change their bookings,"that the best travel alternatives can be found together."

"We regret all the inconveniences that arise from this situation, and we are working intensively to mitigate the inconvenience that it may cause to our customers."
