A man has been seriously injured after being shot with a crossbow at student accommodation in Guildford, southwest of London, prompting a major police response and the arrest of a former university student.
Officers from Surrey Police were called to reports of a crossbow attack at Manor Park Student Village, linked to the University of Surrey, at around 10 a.m. on June 4, 2026.
A 21-year-old Saudi national, described by police as a former student at the university, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: "I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities, and I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident."
"The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident and an investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the assault," he added.
Police said a significant emergency services presence remains in the area while investigators work with the university to determine what happened.
