Picturesque towns, turquoise waters, Italian cuisine, private sailing, breathtaking views and a pampering beach club: week-long itinerary in the magical southern Italy

There are places where every picture looks like a postcard, and then you arrive and discover that the reality is even more beautiful. That's exactly how we felt in southern Italy. For a week, we combined Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello with one base in Sorrento, which turned every day into a different trip and every evening into an experience in itself. Between a private cruise around Capri, beaches with turquoise waters, sunsets over the Bay of Naples, a pampering beach club, and fine Italian food, we discovered an itinerary that we would do again without a second thought.

Sunday: Landing in Rome

We landed in Rome in the evening, picked up the car and entered the city for the first night. After the flight, there is no better way to start the vacation than with good Italian pasta, real ice cream and a stroll through the city's illuminated streets. From the first moment we entered the Italian atmosphere.

Monday: Naples on the Way to Sorrento

After breakfast we headed towards Naples. It's a city unlike anywhere else in Italy, noisy, colorful, authentic and full of character. We strolled along the promenade, enjoyed the atmosphere and of course didn't miss out on real Neapolitan pizza, in the place where it was born.

From there we continued on to Sorrento, one of the best decisions we made on the trip. For five nights it served as the perfect base, from which we set out daily for excursions along the Amalfi Coast and returned each evening to the lively city.

Sorrento: Much More Than a Place to Sleep

If there's one place that surprised us, it's Sorrento.

Every evening we went out to wander the picturesque streets, boutiques, limoncello stands, ice cream parlors and bars. The city is bustling with life until the wee hours, with great restaurants, music and an atmosphere that is simply fun to get carried away by.

One of the most beautiful moments of the trip was indulging in a bottle of Italian wine, sitting in front of the Bay of Naples, in one of the amazing bars, watching the sun set into the sea with Mount Vesuvius rising in the background. No rush, no plan, just enjoying the moment.

And if there's one restaurant that shouldn't be missed, in our opinion, it's Mama Pasta, one of the best meals we had on the entire trip.

Tuesday: Capri and the Unforgettable Cruise

In the morning we boarded the ferry to Capri. The cruise is already part of the experience, but the island itself is even more beautiful than any of the pictures.

After a tour of the alleys and lookouts, we boarded a private boat for two hours around the island.

The price? Only €250 for five people.

We were given towels, cold drinks, music and stops to swim in bays that look like they came straight out of the Caribbean. Swimming in front of the cliffs of Capri, jumping off the boat into the clear water and circling the island - this was without a doubt the highlight of the entire trip.

Wednesday: Positano

Positano is exactly what you imagine when you think of the Amalfi Coast.

Colorful houses climbing the mountain, endless alleys, small designer shops, cafes and a view that you can't stop taking pictures of.

Our advice? Just get lost in the streets. That's where the most beautiful places are hidden.

Thursday: Amalfi and Ravello

We drove along the coastal road, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, to the town of Amalfi.

We started the morning on the magnificent Amalfi Coast. Clear turquoise water, dramatic cliffs, and an atmosphere that's hard to explain in words - the kind of place you just don't want to leave.

Then we strolled through the picturesque alleys, walked around the harbor, stopped for coffee by the sea, and absorbed some more of the town's charm.

In Amalfi itself, among the alleys, cafes and promenade, lemons are an integral part of the experience, decorating the shops, ceramics, restaurants and even hotels, giving the entire area its recognizable character.

From there we continued to Ravello.

Ravello is best saved for the late afternoon. About half an hour before sunset we entered Villa Cimbrone and reached the infinity terrace.

There are views that no camera can truly capture. The blue sea, the cliffs, the silence, and the light of the sunset create a moment that simply stays with you long after the trip is over.

Friday, a Day of Pampering

After a few busy days, we decided to slow down.

We spent the day at Maya Beach Experience - a luxurious beach club with sunbeds, music, excellent food, cocktails, excellent service, and clear water.

True, the price isn't cheap, but for us it was the perfect way to end the week without rushing anywhere, just having fun.

Saturday - Shopping and Return to Rome

On the way back to Rome we stopped at Castel Romano Designer Outlet. After a week of views, sea, and Italian food, it was a great opportunity to do some last-minute shopping before the flight home.

Some recommendations that made a difference for us

-Sleep in Sorrento and make it your base instead of moving from hotel to hotel.

-Investing in a private cruise in Capri is one of the most affordable and unforgettable experiences on a trip.

-Arrive at the Infinity Terrace in Ravello about half an hour before sunset.

-Don't miss Mama Che Pasta, for us, it's a must.

-Dedicate a day to the Maya Beach Experience, a perfect way to end a week full of trips.

And leave at least one evening without a plan, just walk around Sorrento, sit in a small bar, open a bottle of local wine in front of the Bay of Naples and let the city do its magic.

What Would We Change?

Flying to Naples and back: It didn't work out for us. It saves many hours of travel.

The combination of Sorrento as a base, the daily trips along the Amalfi Coast, the private cruise in Capri, the streets of Positano, the magnificent Amalfi Coast, the sunset on Ravello's infinity terrace, and the pampering at Maya Beach created one of the most enjoyable vacations we've ever had.

This wasn't a vacation of running from attraction to attraction, but of enjoying the journey, stopping for coffee by the sea, sailing in turquoise waters, opening a bottle of wine in front of the Bay of Naples, discovering local restaurants and simply drifting to the rhythm of southern Italy.

If there's one destination in Europe that managed to exceed all our expectations, it's the Amalfi Coast and its surroundings. One week was enough to understand why so many travelers fall in love with this place.
