At the end of June, we revealed Aena's €14 million plan to build a geothermal facility at Madrid-Barajas Airport, supporting decarbonization and renewable energy goals.

Now, the Spanish operator has more good news for passengers flying through the same airport: they will benefit from two new premium spaces where they can relax before departure.

The airport has recently opened the Gran Vía VIP Lounge in Terminal 4 Satellite (T4S) and the new Altitude Lounge in the non-Schengen area of Terminal 1, increasing the number of premium facilities available across the airport.

The Gran Vía VIP Lounge complements the existing Neptuno Lounge in T4S and is designed primarily for international travelers. Covering approximately 530 square meters across two levels, the lounge accommodates up to 110 guests and features dedicated areas for relaxation, dining and work.

Travelers can enjoy a wide selection of meals and beverages throughout the day, including options for special dietary requirements. Additional amenities include showers, luggage storage, accessible restrooms, a baby changing area and a dedicated nursing room. The lounge operates daily from 5:00 a.m. until midnight.

Meanwhile, the newly opened Altitude Lounge introduces an entirely new premium concept for Aena and is the first facility of its kind within the airport operator's network.

Located next to the Cibeles VIP Lounge in Terminal 1, the space is designed for travelers seeking a more exclusive experience than a traditional airport lounge. Guests have access to an elevated dining experience featuring an à la carte menu with both Spanish and international cuisine, alongside premium beverages in a refined setting.

Unlike many airport lounges, the Altitude Lounge is open around the clock, operating 24 hours a day throughout the year.

With the addition of these facilities, Madrid-Barajas Airport now offers seven VIP lounges spread across its terminals, alongside the new Altitude Lounge and a Premium Lounge that provides an even higher level of service.

The Premium Lounge includes dedicated parking, a private security screening area, assistance with check-in and baggage, support during document checks and a personalized escort service to the aircraft.

According to Aena, the expansion reflects the increasing popularity of airport lounges among travelers, particularly those looking for greater comfort, privacy and personalized services before boarding.

By introducing different categories of premium spaces, the airport aims to offer a broader range of experiences tailored to both frequent flyers and passengers seeking a more relaxed and exclusive start to their journey.
