A tourist was rescued after falling and suffering a head injury near Santa Maria Cave in Mġarr in Malta, prompting a swift response from the national Red Cross rescue teams.
According to the Malta Red Cross, the incident occurred during a routine coastal patrol when emergency responders were called to assist the injured visitor.
Rescuers safely evacuated the casualty from the cave and provided immediate medical treatment at the scene. After assessment, it was determined that the tourist had sustained only minor injuries.
The organization praised its rescue teams for their quick response, saying the incident demonstrated the importance of having trained emergency personnel patrolling Malta's coastline during the busy tourist season.
"Thanks to the rapid response and professionalism of our teams, the situation was managed before it could escalate into something more serious," the Malta Red Cross said in a statement.
FCDO Updates Travel Advice for Malta
Amid the rescue operation, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice for Malta, reminding holidaymakers to exercise caution while swimming and exploring the island's coastline.
The updated guidance notes that people drown every year in Malta's seas and swimming pools and urges travelers to supervise children closely, especially around water.
The FCDO also warns visitors to be aware of strong undercurrents, hidden rocks and shallow water, which can lead to serious injuries. Travelers are advised not to dive into unfamiliar waters or swim at beaches where rivers flow into the sea.

Visitors are encouraged to pay close attention to beach flags, with red flags indicating dangerous swimming conditions, and to remain within designated swimming zones whenever possible.
The travel advice also recommends taking extra care at unmonitored beaches, where waves and powerful undertows may be less obvious, and following local guidance if jellyfish are present.
