Emergency services were called to North Rocks Road in Carlingford shortly after 7 a.m. local time following reports of a shooting.
Officers from The Hills Police Area Command arrived at the scene and discovered a man, believed to be in his 30s, suffering from significant injuries inside a vehicle.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the victim has not yet been formally identified.
Police have established a crime scene on North Rocks Road as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Detectives from the Homicide Squad have been notified and are assisting with the investigation.
North Rocks Road remains closed, and members of the public have been urged to avoid the area while inquiries continue.
No arrests have been announced, and police have not released details regarding a possible suspect or motive.
