A video released by the Metropolitan Police Service is gaining traction online after showing how officers used a police drone to track down a suspect who attempted to evade capture in central London.

According to the Met Police, officers were responding to reports of a fight when one man allegedly tried to escape by weaving through nearby backstreets before hiding in an attempt to avoid arrest.

However, what the suspect did not realize was that a police drone had already been deployed overhead.

The aerial footage, shared by the force on X, shows the drone providing officers with real-time updates on the man's movements, allowing police units on the ground to follow his route and ultimately locate him.

"After reports of a fight in central London, one man thought he could outrun officers by weaving through backstreets and hiding nearby," the Met Police wrote in the post. "What he didn't realise was a Met Drone had already been deployed, providing officers real-time updates on his every move."

The video quickly attracted attention online, surpassing 40,000 views within the first three hours of being posted as social media users reacted to the growing use of drone technology in modern policing.

Police forces across the United Kingdom have increasingly incorporated drones with high-definition cameras, night vision and thermal imaging capability into their operations in recent years, using them for everything from missing person searches and crowd monitoring to suspect pursuits and emergency response.
