Tourists planning to arrive in Greece or are in Greece this coming Friday - take note. The planned 24-hour strike on Friday February 28 is expanding and will significantly impact air and land movement in the country.

After the announcement by the airline Aegean to cancel all its flights and the flights of its subsidiary Olympic (except for 4 flights they committed to), the second-largest airline in the country, Sky Express, also announced it will not operate at all on Friday.

Regarding the Israeli companies planning to fly to Athens on Friday or take off from the Greek capital to Israel - El-Al, Arkia Airlines, Israir, Blue Bird, and Air Haifa, an update will likely come later in the day.

Additionally, the Hellenic Shipping Union announced a total shutdown of ferries operating in the country. The combination of the airline and ferry strikes will lead to a complete and unusual disconnection between Greece, the capital Athens, and the residents of the Greek islands.

The Taxi Drivers' Union is also expected to join the strike and partially shut down activities throughout the country but only for a few hours and not the entire day. It is still unclear whether public transportation will shut down, including the metro.
