This summer, the trend has taken an imaginative turn in England. Nestled in the Surrey Hills, Beaverbrook has unveiled "Balloons in Bloom," an immersive dining experience set within beautifully styled stationary hot air balloons in the estate's Italian Gardens.

Guests dine in private balloons accommodating up to four people while enjoying a welcome cocktail and a five-course Japanese menu created by Executive Development Chef Wojciech Popow. Highlights include tartar platters, seasonal dishes, an open flame yakiniku barbecue, and an origami matcha dessert. Lunch and dinner experiences are available from Wednesday through Sunday.
Beaverbrook may keep guests firmly on the ground, but the experience is every bit as magical.
What to wear:
-Layers: The temperature varies at different altitudes, and the burners generate overhead heat, so layer up or down accordingly.
-Footwear: Wear durable, flat, closed-toe shoes or light hiking boots. You will likely be standing for the whole flight and walking through uneven fields or muddy pastures upon landing.
-Hats and Glasses: A hat or cap protects your head from the heat of the burner. Sunglasses are essential due to early morning glare.
-Camera Safety: Bring your camera or smartphone, but keep it secure with a wrist strap so it doesn't fall out of the basket.
What to expect:
-Early call times: Flights take place shortly after sunrise when the atmosphere is most stable. Be prepared for an early wake-up call and verify your flight status with your operator the evening prior.
-Gentle lift-off: The ascent is very smooth. If you can comfortably tolerate riding in a car, motion sickness is generally not an issue.
-Standing room only: Baskets are divided into small compartments, and you will be standing for the duration of the flight.
-Landings can be unpredictable: Balloons travel with the wind, so the ground crew follows you to the landing site, which is usually a field or open pasture. Pay close attention to your pilot's safety briefing on how to crouch and brace for impact during landing.
Hot air ballooning isn't the cheapest activity, but few travel experiences compare. Prices in Europe typically start at around €130 in Lithuania and can exceed €250 in premium destinations such as the Swiss Alps. Most flights include transportation to the launch site, a safety briefing, approximately one hour in the air, and a celebratory drink or local treat after landing.
Europe's balloon experiences prove one thing: some of the best travel memories begin long before your feet touch the ground again.
