Well, that, plus its famous airport and its proximity to neighboring Skopelos, where the famous Mamma Mia! musical was filmed.

The island's tiny airport, with its 1,628-meter runway squeezed between the sea and a public road, has become an attraction in its own right. Nicknamed the "European St. Maarten," it draws aviation enthusiasts every summer as aircraft thunder overhead just meters above spectators eager to capture the perfect photo.
It's one of the few places in the world where your vacation begins with an adrenaline rush before you've even picked up your luggage.
Skiathos is just 12 kilometers long and boasts more than 60 beaches. So where should you find accommodation?
Located just 10 minutes from the airport, it offers easy access to ferries, Mamma Mia boat tours, and some of the island's best restaurants, bars, and nightlife.

Located about seven kilometers from Skiathos Town, it sits along the island's southern coast, mixing a long sandy beach with calm, shallow waters that are ideal for children.
Beachfront taverns, bakeries, mini markets, and frequent buses to Skiathos Town (every 10-20 minutes) make it one of the island's most practical family bases. During the same travel period, we found a family-friendly property with a pool, spa, restaurant, and free parking for approximately €1,093.
This picturesque neighborhood sits on the edge of Skiathos Town and offers sea views, quiet alleyways, and a romantic atmosphere. Best of all, you're only a short walk from the Old Port, Papadiamanti Street, and the town's lively restaurant scene. For a 5-night stay (September 4-9) in a seaview room for 2 adults, we found an excellent hotel at 668 EUR.

For dinner, book a table at Achinos, known for its fresh fish dishes and waterfront setting. End the evening with cocktails at Jasmine, one of the island's most atmospheric bars.
No trip to Skiathos is complete without a Mamma Mia excursion (€40-€55 for full-day cruise). Spend the day cruising the Sporades and visiting filming locations made famous by the movie, including Kastani Beach on Skopelos.
Back in Skiathos Town, enjoy pizza and an aperitivo at Archontiko before calling it a night.
Begin your day at Koukounaries, widely regarded as one of Greece's most beautiful beaches. Golden sand, crystal clear water, and a backdrop of pine trees make it easy to understand why.

Take a morning boat trip to Lalaria Beach, famous for its dramatic cliffs and impossibly blue water. Many excursions also include Kastro, Skiathos' medieval former capital, perched high above the sea.
Enjoy lunch at Tarsanas overlooking the harbor before spending a relaxing evening at the pine-covered peninsula of Bourtzi for some of the best sunset views.
If the Mamma Mia boat tour wasn't enough to explore Skopelos, dedicate an entire day to the beautiful island. Take a ferry (10 EUR) and reach it in 10-60 minutes, depending on the chosen vessel. Enjoy a few hours at Kastani Beach.

Spend the afternoon shopping at local boutiques and stop by Panagitsa of Pyrgos for one of the best sunset views on the island.
Enjoy dinner at Mercurius Bar & Restaurant before ending the day with cocktails at Vrachos, a cliffside bar with spectacular views over Skopelos Town.

Continue to Panormos, a picturesque bay surrounded by pine forests, and have coffee or a quick swim before heading inland.
Next, visit Glossa. The "balcony of the Aegean" sits high on a hillside and offers stunning views across to Skiathos. Its narrow streets and traditional houses provide a glimpse into authentic island life.

Spend your afternoon at Hovolo Beach and make the most of the crystal-clear water and one of the most scenic swimming spots in the Sporades.
Spend your final day exploring the Plakes neighborhood before strolling along Papadiamanti Street, the island's main shopping avenue. Finish your trip with ice cream before heading to the airport.
In a country blessed with more than 200 inhabited islands, Skiathos occupies a sweet spot few destinations can match. Seven days may be enough to fall in love with the inland, but don't be surprised if you leave already planning your next visit.
