Content creator Sherina Walsh shared the dramatic footage of the incident that occurred in June, which had remained under the radar until now, sparking deep shock and immediate action from Italian MP Francesco Emilio Borelli, who today launched a strong criticism of the site's safety protocols.
The public outrage gained official political momentum when MP Borelli, a representative from the Greens and Left Alliance, posted a stern message on his Facebook page, declaring that the current situation has crossed all possible boundaries.
Borelli clarified that his political movement has long warned against the uncontrolled, reckless, and dangerous conduct of local boatmen responsible for taking tourists into the Blue Grotto. He accused the authorities of indifference, emphatically writing that the system seems to be waiting for a fatal disaster to occur before initiating real reform, while noting another violent altercation between boat operators only recently.

According to her, immediately after the boat hit the top of the rock hard and began taking on seawater, the local operator tried to continue the tour as if nothing happened, rowing and singing while passengers were soaked and shaking with fear. The confusion and panic peaked when other guides in the grotto began shouting directions in Italian, incomprehensible to the tourists, and some passengers burst into tears, fearing they would be trapped in the darkness for what felt like an eternity.
Despite the severity of the accusations stemming from today's viral release, it is important to emphasize that the incident ended without casualties, thanks to the quick thinking of another local sailor who noticed the distress, approached with his boat, and instructed the passengers to transfer quickly before their vessel fully sank.
MP Borelli emphasizes in his concluding remarks that this swift rescue does not diminish the seriousness of the situation and that the exposure of the footage must lead to strict sanctions and supervision against operators who take unnecessary risks with visitors.
