London Gatwick Airport. Photo: Shutterstock London Gatwick Airport has returned to normal operations after a water supply issue at the Bough Beech Water Treatment Works disrupted services across the airport and surrounding communities.
The disruption, which occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, affected water pressure throughout the local area and temporarily impacted passenger facilities at the UK's second busiest airport during the peak summer travel season.
In an initial statement, Gatwick acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage and said it had been working closely with SES Water and airport partners to minimize the impact on travelers.
"We recognise the inconvenience caused by today's water shortage, following an issue at the Bough Beech Water Treatment Works that has impacted the local area," the airport said.
As crews worked to restore supplies, Gatwick deployed additional staff across both terminals to assist passengers and maintain operations. Airport teams focused on reopening toilets and other facilities as water pressure gradually returned throughout the day.
"We are pleased to report that water pressure is beginning to return to normal, and our teams are working hard to reopen toilets and other facilities as quickly and safely as possible," the airport said in its earlier update.
By Monday, July 27, the situation had been fully resolved. Gatwick confirmed that water service had been completely restored and that all passenger amenities were once again available.
"Following an issue yesterday (Sunday 26 July) at the Bough Beech Water Treatment Works which impacted the local area, we are pleased to report that the water supply has fully returned to the airport," Gatwick said in a follow-up statement.
The airport added that all toilet facilities, as well as food and beverage outlets, had reopened and that operations had returned to normal.
