Paros. Photo: Shutterstock A huge fire broke out yesterday (Tuesday, July 28, 2026) on the Greek island of Paros, while it was packed with tourists from around the world. Firefighters are working around the clock to try to bring the blaze under control.
A growing number of communities have been evacuated, and this morning (Wednesday, July 29, 26) the official Greek emergency hotline 112 is already reporting nine communities whose residents were forced to evacuate for fear of the fire continuing to spread.
According to the Greek fire service, more than 60 firefighters, four special units and 16 fire trucks are working at the scene of the fire. At dawn, two planes and five firefighting helicopters also began operating.

Paros, one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations during the summer season in Greece.
The island is famous for its crystal clear beaches, authentic villages with narrow alleys, restaurants, cafes and lively nightlife. The island attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every season, including from Israel. Getting to Paros is relatively easy via domestic flights from Athens or via ferries, which can be boarded from the port of Piraeus.
