The airport has launched a public tender worth 1,867,071 RON (over 350,000 EUR) for the acquisition and installation of two electronic access gates (eGates). The new equipment will include integrated document readers capable of scanning boarding pass barcodes, allowing eligible passengers to move through designated checkpoints more quickly.
The project aims to bring Cluj Airport in line with many European airports handling more than two million passengers annually, where premium fast-track services have become standard for business travelers and frequent flyers.
According to airport officials, the introduction of the system is expected to streamline passenger flows, improve predictability in the boarding process, and enhance overall comfort in security and transit areas.
Alin Tișe, President of the Cluj County Council, said the investment reflects the airport's commitment to meeting growing passenger expectations and maintaining its position as Romania's leading regional airport.
"It is very important that the airport keeps up with the increasing needs and expectations of passengers, and investments in modern facilities and efficient services are a priority," Tișe said.
The "Fast Track" system is also intended to strengthen the airport's competitiveness among regional airports across Europe, while supporting future traffic growth.

The addition of automated eGates marks another step in the airport's broader strategy to modernize infrastructure and deliver a smoother travel experience.
