At a festive event: Bulgaria celebrates its national day in Israel.
The Bulgarian Ambassador to Israel, Slavena Gergova, hosted hundreds of ambassadors and officials last Thursday at a celebratory event for her national day, which took place at the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv.
Among the officials taking part in the event were Minister of Tourism, Chaim Katz, Miki Federman from the Dan Hotels chain, Moni Barr, Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in Israel, Head of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador of the European Union, Prof. Michael Bar Zuak, government ministry representatives, ambassadors, military attachés, economic attachés, and businesspeople.

Photo: PassportnewsIn her speech, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Israel noted that: "The times we are living in recent years are particularly challenging. Bulgaria extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack on October 7 and to the people of Israel as a whole.
Bulgaria calls for the return of all hostages that remain captive in Gaza, whether alive or not. It emphasizes the urgent and immediate need for the full implementation of all stages of the hostage agreement, which is a vital step toward stabilizing the region. This will allow for the return of all hostages and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the number of civilian casualties is high."
The ambassador further noted that: "Three years after the brutal military attack by Russia against Ukraine, Bulgaria continues to firmly support its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Bulgaria stands by Ukraine in the global struggle for democracy and peace."
The ambassador emphasized that: "Bulgaria sees great importance in its strategic partnership with Israel and is committed to deepening it. This year marks 35 years of diplomatic relations between the countries, and it is an excellent opportunity for high-level mutual visits, including a visit from President Herzog to Bulgaria.
The relationship between Bulgaria and Israel is a special one. During World War II, Bulgaria saved all its Jews – more than 48,000 people. This historical act of compassion and bravery remains relevant today, especially in light of the unprecedented rise in antisemitism. Bulgaria actively works to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and educates teachers and youth to combat historical distortion and deal with the challenges of modern antisemitism and racism."
The Bulgarian Ambassador to Israel added: "Israel is an important trade partner for Bulgaria, and there are promising areas such as tourism, trade, labor, investments, information technology, innovation, and science. Tourism has a high priority in the cooperation between Bulgaria and Israel, and Bulgaria offers a diverse tourism product for all seasons, with an emphasis on safety and many attractions."
Bulgaria is becoming a popular tourist destination for Israelis, due to the variety of attractions it offers for all types of travelers – from the stunning Rhodope Mountains, to the beaches of the Black Sea, and historic cities with rich culture.
