Another Emergency Landing in the U.S., This Time Due to Bird Strikes
A FedEx cargo flight departing today (1.3) from Newark Airport, New Jersey, to Indianapolis, Indiana, was forced to return and make an emergency landing in Newark after bird strikes damaged the engine.
According to official sources in the company, the bird strikes caused a fire in the Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft engine, which necessitated a complex emergency landing.
In response to PassportNews, FedEx said that "Flight 3609 from Newark to Indianapolis experienced a bird strike during takeoff. The aircraft crew declared an emergency and safely returned to Newark while dealing with the damage caused by the strike, including a fire in the engine."
The company thanked the flight crew and said: "The training, expertise, and professionalism demonstrated by our FedEx pilots were exemplary. We appreciate the swift actions of the crew and their initial responses."
