Major Step: South African Airline Adds Doha as First Long-Haul Destination via Qatar Airways

South African airline Airlink will add Doha to its network from August 31, marking its first long-haul destination under a Qatar Airways codeshare

South African regional airline Airlink is expanding beyond its traditional regional network by adding Doha as its first long-haul destination under a new codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways .

The new service is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026 , marking a significant step in Airlink's international expansion and strengthening connections between Southern Africa and Qatar.

Through the newly strengthened partnership, Airlink and Qatar Airways will offer travelers greater connectivity between their respective networks. Doha's position as a major international aviation hub will also give passengers opportunities to connect onward to destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and beyond.

Doha Opens Global Connections

Doha is home to Hamad International Airport, one of the world's major connecting hubs and the main base for Qatar Airways.

By adding Doha to its network, Airlink can offer travelers a gateway to destinations much further afield than those traditionally served by the airline.

Passengers traveling from Southern African cities could benefit from connections through Doha to markets across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and other regions served by Qatar Airways.

Airlink is a premium full-service company founded in 1992 that currently operates a fleet of more than 70 modern commercial aircraft serving over 47 destinations across 15 African countries, including remote locations like St. Helena Island.
