What do Freddie Mercury, the Republic of Helvetia, the predecessor of Switzerland, and a cute alpine marmot have in common? They all appear on the special new livery of the first A350 aircraft of SWISS. The unique livery of the aircraft, named 'SWISS Wanderlust', emphasizes the close ties between the airline and its homeland and its cities.
SWISS notes that the special livery applied to its first Airbus A350-900 is a creative tribute rich in stories about Switzerland, combining impressive buildings with landmarks and famous motifs from traditional art and sports events. Each of the illustrations refers to different places in Switzerland, to the Swiss people, and to their culture. The name 'Wanderlust' resonates with our longing to travel, discover, and explore the wider world, emphasizes SWISS.
The person behind the special livery "SWISS Wanderlust" is Swiss artist Frédéric Siegel, known for his unique illustrations and animations. With his creative presentations and diverse motifs, Siegel has turned the first Airbus A350-900 of SWISS into the world's first flying art gallery. On the aircraft's body and engine, both traditional and modern are depicted, all presented with creative flair and a light-hearted wink.
"This special color is our flying statement of love for Switzerland," says the airline's Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach. "It is a confirmation of how close we feel to our homeland; and an invitation for everyone to discover and explore it in all its uniqueness in a playful and creative manner. We are proud to present Switzerland and all its variety to the world in such a special way".
All the illustrations on the aircraft can be explored through augmented reality (AR) at swiss.com/treasurehunt. Users of this feature can discover hidden details, solve intriguing puzzles, and with a little luck, win a round-trip business class flight for two on the new Airbus A350 of SWISS.
When the airline receives its first A350-900, SWISS will embark on a new era of greater efficiency and sustainability. The airline will receive 10 of the most advanced and fuel-efficient long-range aircraft in the coming years.
The first aircraft, characterized by the special livery "SWISS Wanderlust", is expected to enter service at the end of the summer this year, featuring Freddie Mercury, Helvetia, and the alpine marmot. At the same time, the artistic livery of the aircraft will also include various motifs representing Switzerland's main cities: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lucerne, and Zurich, as well as illustrative representations of a myriad of popular tourist attractions in the country.
