If you're planning a vacation in Greece or the Greek islands in the coming days, be aware. A particularly intense heat wave will hit the country starting tomorrow (Friday, August 21, 26) for about a week, with temperatures expected to peak at 40 degrees.
According to the country's weather forecast, temperatures in Athens will be between 36 and 37 degrees at the end of the week, but on Sunday and Monday they will reach 38 degrees. Temperatures will also remain at 35-36 degrees later next week.
Similar weather is expected in Thessaloniki, with 36 degrees expected at the end of the week, and high temperatures of 34-35 degrees during the next week.
The heat wave will also be felt in the Greek islands, with temperatures between 32 and 34 degrees in various areas of Crete. Lesbos will measure 35-36 degrees in the coming days. Santorini and Mykonos will measure only 30-31 degrees, and Rhodes and Corfu will measure 31-32 degrees.
The extreme weather in the Greek capital of Athens is expected to lead to the closure of tourist sites such as the Acropolis and Lycabettus (Wolves' Hill) during the intense heat.
