Korean Air officially presented a new branding as part of its strategic change following the acquisition of Asiana Airlines for $1.3 billion. The update of the appearance and branding marks a significant change in the identity and organizational direction of the airline.
The new livery of the company’s aircraft, revealed for the first time, showcases a sleek and modern look, featuring the word KOREAN in dark blue font against a light blue background with metallic sheen, while the tail design has also been refined to now display a simple dark blue emblem.
The rebranding is a significant step in Korean Air’s plan to fully integrate Asiana Airlines, ultimately establishing one of the largest airline groups in Asia.
As part of the transition strategy, Asiana will continue to operate as a subsidiary until its full integration into Korean Air by 2027. After the merger is completed, the airline group is expected to become the 12th largest airline in the world in terms of international capacity and will control more than half of the passenger market in South Korea.
Beyond the rebranding of the flag carrier, Korean Air also intends to merge its low-cost carriers with Asiana’s low-cost carriers into one framework. This move is aimed at streamlining operations and improving competitiveness in the growing low-cost carrier sector.
Korean Air’s CEO, Walter Cho, emphasized that despite the significant changes, the airline remains steadfast in its commitment to safety and service excellence.
