Scheduled to open in 2030, the project will mark the debut of Ritz-Carlton Reserve's new urban Reserve concept, designed to bring the brand's focus on privacy, personalized service, wellbeing and connection to local culture into major global cities.
The agreement was signed with Shanghai SIIC North Bund New Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd. The project will form part of a major mixed-use development combining hospitality, retail, offices, residences and an observatory deck.

Photo: Marriott InternationalUnlike traditional luxury hotels, Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties are designed around highly personalized experiences and a strong connection to their surroundings. The new urban concept will adapt that approach for major cities, creating what Marriott describes as a sanctuary within an otherwise energetic urban environment.
Shanghai was selected as the first destination for the concept, reflecting the city's combination of historic heritage, culture, creativity and international influence.

She added that the property is intended to offer a sanctuary within Shanghai while retaining a strong connection to the city.

The hotel is planned to feature 110 guest rooms and suites, with many accommodations expected to offer views of the Bund and Huangpu River. The property will also include a Presidential Suite.
Dining and wellness will be central to the guest experience. Planned facilities include a specialty restaurant, Chinese dining experiences, a lobby lounge and bespoke bar, alongside an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and spa and wellness retreat.
The project is intended to provide guests with opportunities for cultural immersion and more personalized experiences while offering a quieter retreat from the pace of Shanghai.
The new property will further expand Marriott International's luxury portfolio in Greater China. Upon opening, Shanghai is expected to become the only city worldwide where all eight of Marriott International's luxury brands are represented.
The development also adds another major hospitality project to the rapidly evolving North Bund district, which is becoming an increasingly important waterfront area for business, tourism, culture and luxury lifestyle developments.
Huang Haiping, Vice President of SIIC Group and Chairman of Shanghai SIIC North Bund Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd., said the partnership aims to create a world-class luxury property reflecting Shanghai's distinctive character.
The agreement comes as luxury travelers increasingly seek personalized service, wellness, cultural experiences and meaningful connections, areas that Marriott says will be central to the new Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Shanghai.
