Life-Saving: First UK Airport to Install Allergy Kits Across Terminal

London Luton Airport has become the first airport to install wall-mounted anaphylaxis kits across its terminal, introducing a new emergency measure designed to help passengers experiencing severe allergic reactions.

The airport has partnered with Kitt Medical to install the life-saving kits at 10 locations across the terminal. The move comes as awareness grows around the risks faced by travelers with severe allergies.

According to London Luton Airport, around 2.5 million people in the UK have a known allergy, making access to emergency treatment an important consideration in busy public spaces such as airports.

The kits are intended to provide rapid access to emergency anaphylaxis medication in situations where a passenger or another person experiences a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

The airport described the installation as a new standard for emergency allergy care and encouraged passengers with severe allergies to continue carrying their own prescribed medication while traveling.

Travelers are also advised to inform airport and airline staff about their allergy throughout their journey. This can help staff understand a passenger’s needs and respond appropriately if an emergency occurs.

The airport highlighted guidance from organizations including Anaphylaxis UK and the UK’s National Health Service for passengers looking for advice about traveling with allergies.

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can develop rapidly and requires urgent medical treatment. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat or tongue, dizziness and loss of consciousness.

For passengers with known severe allergies, carrying prescribed emergency medication remains an important precaution, even where emergency kits are available.

The initiative comes as airports and other transport hubs increasingly look at ways to improve medical preparedness for passengers who may experience emergencies while traveling.
