The airline said clues to its upcoming destinations were hidden throughout the teaser, turning the route announcement into a guessing game for travelers.
The teaser featured reality TV-style lines about alliances, secret advantages, prizes and competition, while also dropping hints about United's network and onboard experience. The campaign also referenced United Polaris , the airline's premier international business class cabin, with a playful mention of "the best sleep in the sky."
The cryptic clues prompted speculation about several new international routes, including possible services involving United's upcoming Airbus A321XLR aircraft and Boeing 787s.
Chicago O'Hare Airport also recently posted a cryptic message that had social media users guessing a new route launch.
Just a few hours after the teaser, United Airlines announced it would expand its international operations towards spring 2027, with the opening of new routes to 10 destinations across Europe and Asia.
Among the new destinations are Catania in Sicily and Olbia in Sardinia in Italy, Ibiza and Valencia in Spain, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Luxembourg, Marseille and Toulouse in France, Terceira in Portugal and Okinawa in Japan.
According to the company, eight of the 10 new destinations are not currently served by another American airline.
United is also expanding service to destinations already included in its international network, adding new routes from three major US hubs across the country.
From Los Angeles, United will launch daily flights to Osaka, Japan, beginning March 27. The new service will make United the only airline offering flights to Osaka from two continental US cities, complementing its existing service from San Francisco and Guam.
From Washington, DC, the airline will introduce three weekly nonstop flights to Milan starting May 28. United will become the only airline connecting the US capital with Milan nonstop. The airline also says it will serve more destinations in Italy nonstop from the United States than any other carrier.
From Denver, United will launch daily nonstop service to Paris on May 27. The new route will complement existing flights to the French capital from Newark/New York, Washington Dulles, Chicago and San Francisco.
United is also set to resume flights between San Francisco and Tel Aviv on March 28. The three-times-weekly service will offer more business-class seats between the two cities than any other airline.

United's new Airbus A321XLR, named Born to Explore , will support its international expansion in summer 2027, serving new destinations including Ibiza, Luxembourg, Marseille, Toulouse and Valencia.
The single-aisle aircraft will feature United Polaris suites with privacy doors, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED screens, Bluetooth connectivity, an Economy snack bar and new Economy Plus seating with extra space.
The A321XLR will offer 32 premium seats, including 20 Polaris suites and 12 United Premium Plus seats.
The aircraft will begin select domestic flights in September before entering international service on December 1 from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin. Tickets for the first international flights go on sale August 27.
United currently operates flights to more than 160 international destinations. According to the company, it is the world's largest airline, based on Available Seat Miles.
The company notes that schedules are subject to change and are subject to government approvals.
