Rimon Supermarket in Dubai has closed - and is going online only.
The Jewish community in Dubai is bidding farewell to one of its significant institutions: Rimon Supermarket, which has become the main kosher address in the city, will cease its physical operation and move to online sales only.
The supermarket gained considerable fame thanks to the vibrant spirit behind it, Rabbi Tzvi Kogan, may his memory be a blessing, who served as the chief assistant to the Chabad emissary and rabbi of the United Arab Emirates, Rabbi Levi Duchman. Kogan was brutally murdered after being kidnapped from the store in Dubai, and his murderers were quickly apprehended by the Emirati authorities. They are currently awaiting the death penalty in prison.
Following the shocking murder, the supermarket was forced to implement strict security measures - every customer was required to show a passport and go through an identification process before entering the store. Now, due to security concerns and policy changes, the physical store will be completely closed, and its new location will not be disclosed to the public.
From now on, purchases will be made solely through the digital platform, with deliveries directly to customers' homes or their hotels. The famous "Rimon" market, which provided Shabbat delicacies on Thursdays and Fridays, will continue to operate in an online format only.
The transition to online indicates a significant change for the Jewish community and the many visitors in Dubai, but it ensures continued access to kosher food in the city - albeit in a different manner than before.
