Austria is renewing itself with three fast and advanced trains.
The company Stadler has signed a contract with WESTbahn, the operator of domestic trains within Austria, to supply three high-speed trains of the SMILE model for service on domestic routes.
The new trains, which will enter service across Austria in March 2026, will reach speeds of 250 km/h. The technical specifications of the trains are particularly advanced and include the ability to connect to various electrical systems, adjustable seats, air conditioning, and even free WiFi.
The trains consist of 11 carriages and are also suitable for international travel. According to the company's announcement, the deal reflects WESTbahn's commitment to modernization and improving the passenger experience. Stadler emphasizes the fast delivery and advanced technology.
The trains, considered to meet the highest standards, are already in operation in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy. This versatility increases their appeal across several railway networks in Europe. Currently, over 30 SMILE trains serve routes in Switzerland and Italy.
