Photo: Greek Ministry of Tourism Greece's Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni , took part yesterday (September 9) in the inauguration ceremony of the upgraded marina for tourist boats on the island of Poros and emphasized the project's importance in strengthening maritime tourism and the maritime industry in Greece.
According to the minister, marine tourism, including yachting, is one of the country's key growth areas, thanks to its added value to the economy and its direct impact on the islands and coastal areas. The Greek Ministry of Tourism has defined strengthening Greece's position in the field as a strategic objective.
The project in Poros, in which almost 6 million euros were invested, includes constructing new floating docks and increasing the number of berths, along with marine works, buildings, modern equipment, and computer systems.
The complex also includes infrastructure for charging electric vehicles and accessible infrastructure for people living with disabilities, with an emphasis on quality, safety, digitization, sustainability and, as mentioned, accessibility. A similar new marina was recently inaugurated in Agios Nikolaos, Crete.
According to Greece's Minister of Tourism, the port upgrade in Poros gives the island new opportunities and strengthens its position on the maritime tourism map, as part of an ever-expanding network of high-class tourist ports and marinas in Attica and the Peloponnese.
