Tribute in Light. Photo: Shutterstock For the 25th anniversary of September 11, the iconic Tribute in Light will be brought to audiences across the United States through a new live television special.
“9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan,” presented by ABC in partnership with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, will air Friday, September 11, at 8 p.m. ET. The one hour special will be available across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, National Geographic and ABC News Live.
The broadcast will give people across the country the opportunity to watch the annual illumination of the New York City skyline together. The Tribute in Light consists of two beams of light representing the Twin Towers and has appeared over New York every September 11 since 2002.
The special will commemorate the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks while also honoring survivors, families, first responders and communities whose lives were changed by the tragedy.
ABC News anchors David Muir, Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer will lead the live broadcast from New York City. The program will culminate with the Tribute in Light installation over Lower Manhattan.
The special will also feature live musical performances. Lainey Wilson, Cyndi Lauper and John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting are scheduled to perform during the broadcast.
For the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the 25th anniversary is an opportunity to keep the stories of those who were killed, as well as the experiences of survivors and first responders, in the public memory for future generations.

First displayed on the six-month anniversary of the attacks, the installation has returned every September 11, creating two illuminated beams above Lower Manhattan in memory of those who died.
This year's broadcast will extend that remembrance beyond New York, allowing viewers around the country to take part in the tribute at the same time.
The anniversary remains a significant moment of remembrance in the United States, with ceremonies, broadcasts and memorial events taking place across the country.
The live special is part of a wider collaboration between Disney Entertainment Television and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum marking the 25th anniversary. The initiative also includes National Geographic programming and digital projects focused on the attacks, their aftermath and the stories of people affected by September 11.
