KlasJet plane. Photo: SHUTTERSTOCK Lithuanian charter flight operator KlasJet that belongs to the Avia Solutions Group has received approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to begin commercial operations in the US in accordance with the conditions set.
The approval was given after approvals from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and other relevant bodies had already been received.
The approval applies to flights by a foreign airline to, from, or through the US, and includes KlasJet's fleet of Boeing 737NG aircraft. The company notes that this effectively completes the licensing phase required to operate ACMI and charter services in the US market.
According to Diako Rad, KlasJet's Director of Flight Operations, the company currently holds the relevant approvals from the FAA, DOT, TSA, and CBP, and is prepared to begin operations.
The ACMI model allows airlines to add capacity quickly without purchasing or leasing aircraft and employing permanent crews. KlasJet provides the aircraft, flight crews, maintenance and insurance as part of the service, allowing airlines to operate the additional capacity as part of their operations.
KlasJet recognizes significant potential for this type of service in the US, due in part to seasonal fluctuations in demand and the need for airlines to deal with temporary aircraft shortages. The reasons for this could be peak demand, aircraft undergoing maintenance, delays in receiving new aircraft, operational disruptions, or rapid expansion of the flight network.
