The wave of strikes in Germany continues, this time in public transport.
Berlin's public transport system is expected to suffer serious disruptions after the Ver.di labor union announced a strike at BVG. According to the plan, on Wednesday and Thursday (March 19-20, 2025), the subways (U-Bahn), trams, and most of BVG's bus routes will not operate at all.
What is being shut down?
During the strike, the following services will be completely canceled:
- All subway lines (U-Bahn)
- All tram lines
- Most of BVG's bus routes
In addition, BVG warns that even after the strike ends on Friday, March 21, at 3:00 AM, there may still be disruptions in public transport for several additional hours.
Transport Alternatives During the Strike
Passengers are advised to use alternative means of transport, such as S-Bahn trains and regional trains, and shared transport services through Jelbi, including bicycles, scooters, and ridesharing services.
Which services will not be affected by the strike?
Some services will continue to operate as usual, including:
- BVG Muva service (on-demand transport service)
- All ferry lines (F10, F11, F12)
- Certain bus lines operated by private companies for BVG
- Bus lines that will continue to operate as usual: 106, 114, 118, 133, 161, 168, 175, 179, 204, 218, 234, 263, 275, 316, 318, 320, 326, 334, 349, 358, 363, 380, N12, N23, N35, N39, N53, N61, N63, N69, N84, N91, N95, N97.
- Bus lines that will operate in a limited capacity: 112, 124, 184, 744, 893, N68, X36.
According to BVG's official announcement, the strike is expected to significantly impact residents and tourists across the city, so it is strongly recommended to plan trips in advance and stay updated through BVG's official information channels.
