Photo: Nox Mobility Berlin-based Nox Mobility is expected to start operating night trains in March 2027, with a first line connecting Hamburg and Munich and also passing through Bremen and Augsburg. The company unveiled its first completed carriage in Berlin this week, and at the same time opened its ticket booking system.
The line will initially operate three times a week in each direction. The train will depart Hamburg at 21:22 and arrive in Munich the next day at 08:14, with stops in Bremen at 22:30 and Augsburg at 07:35.
In the opposite direction, the train will depart Munich at 9:20 PM and arrive in Hamburg at 8:27 AM, with stops in Augsburg at 9:51 PM and Bremen at 7:20 AM. Tickets are sold starting at €65 for a one-way trip.
At the heart of the Nox Mobility product is the Nox Suite, a personal space designed for a single passenger. The suite includes a large seat, a table for working and eating, storage space for luggage and suitcases, and power outlets within easy reach.
The seat can be switched to Lounge mode, which creates a two-meter-long area along the window for resting during the journey. The company presents the concept as a combination of a train ride and a hospitality experience reminiscent of a boutique hotel.
As part of its future plans, the company also introduced Nox Rooms, private rooms designed for a single or two passengers. The rooms are expected to join the company's fleet starting in 2029.
Night trains. Photo by Nox MobilityNox Mobility plans to expand its services beyond the ride itself. The company's booking platform is expected to allow passengers to also book services at the destination, including showers, co-working spaces and hotel rooms.
According to the company, the goal is to allow the passenger to arrive in the city center in the morning when he can start his day without the need for a domestic flight, a trip to the airport, or booking separate accommodation.
The company was founded in 2025 by Thibault Constant, founder of Simply Railway, Janek Smalla, former project manager at FlixTrain, and Artur Hasselbach, an entrepreneur and investor in the transportation sector.
In April 2026, Nox Mobility completed a €2 million pre-seed round led by IBB Ventures. The company aims to expand its network to 100 cities in Europe by 2035.
The route between Hamburg and Munich was chosen as the company's first route, partly due to the volume of air travel between the two cities. According to company data, in 2024, more than 1.2 million passengers flew between Hamburg and Munich.
The company seeks to position night trains as an alternative to short and medium-distance air travel, especially for business travelers. The night train, it claims, allows travelers to use the night hours to travel and arrive in the city center in the morning, without having to go to the airport and go through security checks.
Nox Mobility's first launch is expected to take place in March 2027, at this stage only on the Hamburg-Munich route. The company plans to expand its operations to additional destinations across Europe.
