Flooding in Thailand in 2025. Photo: Arkadij Schell / Shutterstock.com Thailand is dealing with widespread flooding across 29 provinces and Bangkok, with more than 940,000 households affected as authorities deploy additional rescue equipment and monitor rising water levels.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said on September 29 that flooding was affecting 167 districts, 890 subdistricts and 5,077 villages across the country.
According to figures released by the department at 6:00 a.m., 940,300 households and 2,602,309 people had been affected across the 29 provinces. Bangkok was also reporting flooding across all 50 districts.
The flooding has been linked to heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, combined with water flowing south from northern Thailand into the central region.
The situation varies considerably between provinces. Water levels were reported to be rising in a number of areas, while some locations were seeing water levels fall or remain stable.
Among the areas reporting rising water levels were Nakhon Sawan, Chainat, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani in central Thailand, as well as Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo and Chon Buri in the east.
Ayutthaya was among the areas with a large number of affected households, with 28,176 households reported affected across eight districts.
Pathum Thani reported 113,323 affected households, while Chon Buri reported 118,723. Samut Prakan recorded the largest figure in the DDPM's breakdown, with 260,784 affected households across six districts.
Bangkok alone was reported to have 329,000 affected households.
The DDPM also reported deaths in several locations. Its figures included eight deaths in Samut Prakan, six in Sa Kaeo, two in Chanthaburi and one each in Saraburi and Ayutthaya. Bangkok reported four deaths.
Authorities have been sending personnel and disaster-response machinery to affected areas, while continuing to monitor weather and water conditions.
One of the more urgent operations is taking place in Prachin Buri Province, where rescue vehicles, flat-bottomed boats and emergency teams were dispatched to Chao Phraya Abhaibhubej Hospital.
The DDPM said the teams were helping evacuate patients, members of the public and medical personnel as water levels around the hospital continued to rise.
The department has instructed provincial disaster-prevention offices to speed up assistance in affected communities. In areas where floodwaters have begun to recede, authorities have also been told to assess damage and begin recovery work with other agencies.
The DDPM said monitoring and public warnings would continue until the situation improves.
