Attention Passengers: A dramatic event that will significantly impact flights and passenger movement in Europe over the next 24 hours.
London Heathrow Airport, the largest in the United Kingdom and all of Europe by passenger volume, has closed for a day.
The airport will not operate for both outgoing and incoming flights until midnight tonight (March 21, 2025). According to the official announcement from the airport, the closure was decided due to what has been defined as a "fire in the electrical substation supplying power to the airport".
At Heathrow, they say the airport is "experiencing significant power outages" and in order to ensure the safety of passengers and crew, the closure will continue as stated until tonight, March 21, 2025, at 23:59.
The airport management recommends not to arrive at the airport at all and to contact airlines for further information and to arrange alternative flights. "We apologize for the inconvenience," concluded their statement at Heathrow.
