The Crisis at Heathrow Airport is impacting millions of travelers from around the world. After Europe’s largest airport was closed for a day due to a fire that broke out nearby and paralyzed the electrical system in the area, airlines are responding to the event.
The British flag carrier, British Airways, stated that "as a result of the fire, our customers who are supposed to fly from Heathrow today (Friday) are advised not to come to the airport at all. The event will, of course, have a significant impact on our operations and our customers. We are working as quickly as possible to find solutions and will update passengers about their flights in the next 24 hours and beyond."
The airline SWISS announced that all its flights from Zurich and Geneva to London Heathrow have been canceled. "The impact is on nearly 3,000 passengers," the company's official statement said, which also included an apology for the disruptions. "We are assisting affected passengers," said the Swiss airline.
The low-cost giant Ryanair announced the issuance of eight special rescue flights. Today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) - every day, two from Dublin to Stansted and another two in the opposite direction.
It should be noted that the airport closure occurred just hours before EL-AL flight LY315 from Ben Gurion to London, which was scheduled for this morning and was canceled.
