Student protests are continuing across France, with hundreds of high schools closed or partially closed and further demonstrations planned for Tuesday, October 6.

Spreading Protests

The protests have spread to cities across the country. Student organizations have called for a nationwide day of protest on October 6. Several education unions and other organizations are also expected to participate, potentially adding to disruption around schools, universities and transport routes.

The U.S. Embassy in France has advised Americans to avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place, noting that protests can be unpredictable and that previous demonstrations have turned violent.

For travelers in France, the main potential impacts are expected around schools and demonstration routes. Additional school closures and reduced services are possible, while road traffic and public transportation may also be affected in areas where protests take place.

Travelers are advised to check local media and transport operators before setting out, particularly in Paris and other cities where demonstrations are planned. Allowing extra time and having an alternative route may also be advisable.
