Five people have been arrested during a spontaneous protest outside the Board of Deputies of British Jews in Camden, London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The arrests were made on Wednesday morning, October 7, as officers responded to the protest. Police said the five people were arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred after allegedly shouting or chanting slogans calling for “intifada.”

The Metropolitan Police said the five remained in police custody as of its latest update. The protest in Camden has since ended.

The arrests came as several demonstrations were taking place in central London, including a student march. As announced yesterday, the Metropolitan Police had imposed conditions on the student march, which was scheduled for today, on the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel.

“This will be a day of mourning and reflection for many in London,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner James Harman said yesterday, adding that the police were aware of the concerns the event had caused.

The force said updates on its policing operation in central London would be posted throughout the day. It also directed protesters and members of the public to information about the conditions imposed on demonstrations and its approach to policing the events.
