The California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) said on Wednesday evening (October 7) that it is monitoring the possibility of a change in Hurricane Rachel's direction and is coordinating preparations with the National Hurricane Center and other emergency agencies.

Authorities are currently assessing possible scenarios and their impact on Southern California, Cal OES said. It will work with local, state and federal agencies to ensure local authorities have the resources needed to deal with the weather conditions as the storm impacts the region.

At the same time, authorities are urging residents to follow official updates and sign up to receive alerts from local emergency services.

The National Hurricane Center said in its latest update that Hurricane Rachel is moving west-northwestward over the eastern Pacific Ocean. Authorities continue to monitor the storm's track and expected changes in its movement.
